Synopsis

Set in a majestic 1,000 acres of an eco-reserve, Sani Resort sits at the intersection of three beautiful, natural worlds: 7 km of Blue-flagged sandy beaches, 20 km of the Sani Forest, and 270 acres of the Sani wetlands, encouraging guests to reconnect with nature within a sustainable mini self-contained world. Honouring its unique location and rare natural landscape, Sani is deeply committed to preserving this environment and its rich mix of wildlife, as well as supporting the local community. Sani Resort is the first certified carbon-neutral resort in Greece since 2020 that is powered by 100% renewable electricity with a triple zero goal to be zero plastic and zero waste in 2024 and zero carbon by 2030. Sani’s multi-awarded sustainability programme, Sani Green, is focused on improving its sustainability performance, from energy efficiency and use of renewable energy sources to water conservation and sustainable procurement. The collaboration of Sani Resort with the Forest Research Institute for the protection and long-term research of the unique Sani Forest—a Mediterranean Aleppo pine forest type—is only one of Sani Resort's sustainability initiatives under the Sani Green programme dedicated to the local forest. This video prompts viewers and guests to join us on a journey to explore, protect, and promote the unique beauty and biodiversity of the pristine pine forest of Sani in Kassandra, Halkidiki. To protect this unique natural world, Sani Resort has partnered with the Forest Research Institute of ELGO "DIMITRA" to create the Sani Environmental Observatory for research, reforestation, and eco-activity programmes for visitors. Discover how Sani Resort is leading efforts to protect and preserve this unique natural treasure for generations to come!

Objectives

The goal is to present one of Sani Green's sustainability initiatives dedicated to the protection and long-term research of the Sani Forest (Aleppo pine forest). It aims to create awareness of the sustainability initiatives of Sani Resort—always in collaboration with expert NGOs and scientists and with measurable targets—to past, current, and future guests of Sani as well as the local and international community. Sani Resort's goal is to keep on leading the way in sustainability in the hospitality industry through its multi-awarded Sani Green programme. With sustainability at the heart of the business, Sani wants to make all guests part of its sustainability journey. Specifically for this initiative and in collaboration with the Forest Research Institute, Sani Resort has developed a range of research projects aiming to both assess the carbon sink capacity of the Sani Forest, as well as monitor its health and biodiversity. The positive impact of Sani's ecosystem is monitored through installed technology and field visits by experts, with the goal of understanding the carbon storage potential of the coastal Aleppo pine forest of Sani's surroundings and how it can be further bolstered.
